Are You In Good Hands?
By Rev Jan Seward
Dear Unity Friends, At one time or
another, we've all seen or heard that automobile insurance commercial which always ends with the question: "Are you in good hands?",
implying that if you don't have insurance with their company that you are not as safe as you could be. How's your spiritual insurance? What keeps you safe within the corridors of your own mind? Are
you in 'God's hands'? To experience the ultimate assurance, Jesus
makes it very clear in Mark 12:30-32 that we are to first, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and
with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." We all know that the greatest power in the
universe is God's love radiating through us; and yet we seem to have a tendency to want to love
everyone but ourselves. In fact, we're so busy fixing, changing and loving everyone else that we
sometimes neglect the fact that we exist as God's beloved too. What we're really doing is trying to
compensate for the whole world by not allowing the love of God within us to be expressed toward
ourselves; but until we can unconditionally love ourselves, it will never be safe to have a relationship with someone else. Paul Ferrini writes: "
Wherever you go, the love of God goes with you. It moves with your legs, reaches with your hands, speaks with your voice and sees with your eyes. Because of you, love goes forth into
the world. Without you, it would be invisible. The love that expresses through you is the Holy Presence, the human vehicle ablaze with the divine light, the very embodiment of God's love."
Only when we are willing to love fully, beginning with ourselves, do we feel truly safe and spiritually blessed 'in the good hands of God'. Warm blessings,
