Dear Unity Friends,I recently read this quote, "When you are reluctant to
change, think of the beauty of autumn."
(vbbrown - Beliefnet)
While Change is necessary for growth, it can also be frightening. Even when we have been longing for
Change, praying for it and visualizing it, we can find ourselves frightened by its approaching manifestation. Going back to school or getting married suddenly
seems terrifying. We wonder if we are up to the challenge or prepared to let go of our independence.
When the Change is unexpected and totally unforeseen—like a sudden layoff or illness, it's even more
frightening. We become keenly aware of our inability to control everything in our lives, an awareness that is often very unsettling.
How do you navigate through that uncomfortable, in-between time of Change? That being, between where you are, and where you want to be?
Sometimes we cling to what has been, rather than making room for what could be. We are always dealing
with Change. Sometimes Change feels positive; other times, it feels painful. But in all cases, we must look
beyond appearances and know that there is a Higher Power operating in our lives, and we can work with this
power to change any conditions which are not moving us in the direction of our higher good. As we learn to
align with Spirit through our prayer and meditation practices - As we learn to guide our thinking, and to turn from what we do not want to experience - and toward what we do want
to experience, our life is renewed. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)
The only thing that binds us is our own beliefs. When we change our beliefs, we put a new cause out to the universe, and we will soon see a new effect
in our lives. I personally find it very comforting to know that no matter what I have created in my life, I can use the same principles to recreate the good that I deeply desire
to experience.
When you and I allow the Christ Spirit to form a new belief system within us, we see everything in a new
light. We perceive everything with a new eye. We have a new understanding, a new attitude. This new belief
system is much larger. It's kind of like moving into a larger house. We have room to get our expanded good. We have room to experience heaven right here on earth. Paul reminds us,
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: (Philippians 2:5)
So, the next time you are in a panic about Change, I invite you to turn that panic into faith-filled prayer, so that you can move through those in-between times in the peace and grace of God.
Blessings,
Rev. Jan Seward
