Dear Unity Friends,
This week, let's talk about the third power of The Twelve Powers - Strength. Strength is our ability to hold fast, to endure, to be strong and stand firm, and to stay in
integrity. Strength can be about physical force that is outwardly displayed. Or it can be about an inner quality that is found in quiet reflection, confidence, unconditional love, and giving good for evil.
Rev. David Williamson wrote about strength saying, it is the "balance between thinking and feeling, logic and emotion, intellect and intuition."
During our White Stone Ceremony the first Sunday
of January this year, I chose "balance" as my word for the year. Never have I been so challenged by a word. At every turn, my commitment to balance has been questioned.
The more that
we have to do, the more important it is for us to maintain balance. The more stress we have in our lives, the more balance is required for us to remain healthy, happy, and strong. Balance is where our
strength lies.
This is a busy time for Unity in Community. Because of our pending move, suddenly there is so much to be done. We are all being called to share our time and our talents. In
order to meet the challenges of preparing our building for move-in, we must remain balanced in our thinking and feeling. Each of us needs to show up as a whole being, bringing our intellect and our emotions,
sharing our physical capabilities and our spiritual steadiness.
Jesus taught us about an inner strength. He often went apart to pray and reconnect with Spirit within. He found his confidence
and his strength through his prayer time with the Father. All of us crave the calm and peace that a prayer experience can bring, yet we get caught up in the busy-ness of our lives and don't take time for prayer
and meditation. In Isaiah 30:15, scripture says, For thus said the Lord God...in returning and rest you shall be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.
In our family lives and work
lives, in our church, in all things, may we find the balance that displays our true strength. May we hold fast and keep the faith while returning often to the inner sanctuary within where we regain the connection
with the true strength of Spirit.
