Your Inner Star
By Robin Volker

" In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, "Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage."
Matt. 2: 1-2 NRSV

As I ponder the signs for Christmas, my thoughts return again and again to the guiding star that led the wise men across the desert to find the baby Jesus.  Charles Fillmore tells us in the Metaphysical Dictionary that stars are "revelations of truth that are as yet remote."  He says, "The human mind cannot conceive the wonders and immensity of the universe of stars in the heavens."

At a function recently, a gentleman began a conversation with me regarding astrophysics and the laws of science, expecting to use these as a basis of proving there is no God.  I told him that I was not a student of such things, but that I did know that God was alive and active in my life and saw my life as a microcosm of the macrocosm.  What is in the individual is in the universe and vice versa.   I cannot explain how God created my life, much less explain how God created galaxies.  Nevertheless, I rest in complete assurance that these things were set into creation by Omnipotence far greater than any human mind can conceive or explain.

At Christmas time, we have an opportunity to increase in faith in that which we cannot see.  After all, if we could see it, it wouldn't require faith.  So we look to the symbols in the story and find our hope.  The star symbolizes intuition, the wise men, wisdom, and the East means from within.   Fillmore writes, "It [the star of Bethlehem] symbolizes our inner conviction of our divine sonship."

We are the microcosm of the divinity of God.  And our divine destiny, like that of Jesus, is ours as long as we believe in this guiding wisdom from within, as long as we have inner conviction of our ability to accomplish whatever we undertake.  This conviction calls for our very best; it drives us to suit up and show up.  It helps us to succeed where others of equal ability may fail.

A Course in Miracles says it this way, " The sign of Christmas is a star; a light in darkness.  See it not outside yourself, but shining in the Heaven within, and accept it as the sign the time of Christ has come."  (T 357)

Let your intuition be your guiding star this Christmas as you await the arrival of the gifts of Spirit brought by your inner wisdom.   Allow this arrival to inspire you to suit up and show up – and not to give up - for great wonders and adventures await you in the dawning of the New Year ahead.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,
Robin and Rick Volker
